简介

"The Concept" is the first EP of Mind Catalog series. The goal was to broaden our palette of topics and focus more on lyrics and music since our last work were more club oriented with strong emphasis on production side. We're trying to evolve to a more mature sound and keeping our identity at the same time. The "Nice And Good", the song that we choose as a single, is about having good time with somebody you love, in a more direct way. On the album we will have a perception of a new hip-hop, rap with some afro influences that shows our new phase and concept of doing music. Here is a 5 stars review by Charles Sweet “Dat Flava” comes in with a thunderous backbeat and piano chops that immediately grab attention. That was d**e enough, but when the dubstep-esque synth squeals rip through the track followed by crescendo similar to the theme of Flash Gordon (adds a cool atmosphere to the song) there’s no question on what Sevenlox came to do; make an entrance. The head nod is at full tilt here and being the first song from their Mind Catalog EP I was definitely put at notice. “Anete” features a pitched down and choppy intro that evolves into a rapid fire crunchy snap and thin synth that sounds like it’s having an epileptic episode. What I dug most here was the variety; Sevenlox is obviously not afraid of doing things different (evident by the native American chant) and it seems that track changes a million times before it’s over and done with ranging from digital to analog. By the time the breakdown with full on sing-songy bridge and stringy section we’re looking at what could’ve easily been 3-4 songs but it is a credit to their creativity to be able to make all of that fit within one. “Nice and Good” comes in with an almost ice cream truck whistle that grows into a beast of a song with R&B sensibilities that would fit well into any girl’s playlist. Out of place on Mind Catalog? Maybe a little, but what gels it to the other songs and the over-arching theme of the project is the ability to morph into something other than it began and still vibe. The string section break momentarily pulls you away long enough to corral you back in when the ending chorus begins. “Stay” has a multi-part harmony that moves to a piano plink and heavy drum procession that bring shades of the golden era of hip hop to mind; I really liked this one because of how well it was able to walk the fine line between hip hop and R&B before shaking both off with the live instrumentation. “The Reason” is the final track from Mind Catalog and it doesn’t disappoint as the fast paced song is full of adrenaline and the chants of “What you gonna do now?” smash headlong into the dubstep breakdown that diverts left into a mini-smooth-it-down-a-thon before continuing. This is high energy and the song is absolutely bananas. Overall, Sevenlox as an act is one who have mastered the sound(s) of today and rather than fit squarely in a box have decided to stomp on said box until it is flat enough so everyone can sit on top of it together.
