The Tomicks are a new rock n' roll band from London. Hugely inspired by the '60s and '70s, when pop music was less manufactured, Tom Cridland, Nick Whitehead and Debs Marx came together with the aim of trying to revisit that spirit. With the recent untimely deaths of the likes of David Bowie, Glenn Frey, Tom Petty, Leon Russell, George Michael, Prince and so many more, it is becoming all too apparent that, despite all the amazing music being made in newer genres, the old school rock n' roll band, who write their own songs, is something that is fast dying out. The Tomicks are trying to change that, with their self-titled EP released on 30th October 2017 and their first shows in London in December, ahead of the release of this self-titled LP on 26th January 2018. Lead vocalist, songwriter and drummer, Tom Cridland, met his girlfriend, Debs Marx, at Bristol University in 2009 and upon graduating in 2014, the couple started a fashion brand, Tom Cridland (www.tomcridland.com) with a small government loan and developed a friendship with one of Tom's heroes, Elton John’s longstanding drummer, Nigel Olsson, through making him clothing. Inspired by Nigel to take up playing and singing, they then met Nick Whitehead, a piano player and fellow rock n’ roll fanatic in 2015, at an Elton gig. Nick and Tom started jamming together, then writing together in 2016, subsequently forming The Tomicks, together with Debs. The band were so happy with their original material that, using money Tom and Debs had saved up to buy a house with, they self-funded sessions to record an album at the legendary Village Studios in Los Angeles in February 2017. In need of a guitarist and bassist for the recording process, Tom and Nick played Kenji Suzuki, the lead guitarist for Simply Red, their demos ahead of the sessions and he liked what he heard so much he came with the band to LA to play both instruments on the album. The Tomicks LP comprises ten tracks, which feature their signature sound: Nick's incredible piano playing, Tom's deeply personal lyrics, lots of guitars, big drums and rich vocal harmonies. Hair Clip and Candlelight are love songs Tom wrote about Debs, Closing Time reflects on how alcoholism can develop, I'm Good For It describes the emotional turmoil of being in debt, Big Mistake, You're My Man and Break up Anthem tell the story of the disintegration of personal relationships, I'm Gonna Quit alludes to drug addiction and disillusionment with professional life, and Hit or Miss and Classic Line about living in London. To celebrate the release of The Tomicks LP on January 26th, the band will be attempting to break the Guinness World Record for longest music concert marathon by a group.
