Avanti means “moving forward” in Italian, which aligns with our ensemble’s mission to rejuvenate chamber music performance in South Africa. We met at university and reconnected in 2014 over a cup of tea and a mutual desire to make things happen and have been playing together ever since, launching our duo officially as “Avanti” in 2016. This album is a celebration of our first two years of being a duo and an invitation to new listeners to connect with our experiences of playing these pieces.
