简介
Multi instrumentalist, Dean Smith holds the abilities to create what he hears as well as the musician resources to back him up. For his latest production "Marionettes", he was accompanied by Montana Young, a classically trained violinist/fiddler/vocalist who started playing when she was 4 yrs. old. She was the fiddle liason for the original "Crooked Road Tours", toured Scotland and played for the Queen of England when she was 13. Ron Stubblebine assisted on percussion. Ron's father was a well renowned jazz drummer in the SE PA area in the mid to late 60's until his untimely death. Ron picked up where his father left off, cut his teeth on YES,GENESIS and RUSH covers as well as "Black Dog" an all Zepplein cover band, and continues to hone his craft, as does his son Ronnie. On the creation of "Marionettes"... Some of these songs were written in 1999. Looking back, I performed the title track on BCTV in 1999 solo acoustic and a few days later I get a call from a friend I hadn't seen for some time, Ron Stubblebine, a longtime former bandmate. He says "...dude, when you record Marionettes I want the drums!" He got it all right, as well as the rest of the album. His patience (as the rest of the CD took soooo long to write) deems him a saint in my eyes and a friend for life. At the same time, Montana Young was only 7 years old in 1999. Living 410 miles away from my hometown in Oley Pennsylvania. Little did I know fate would land me within 30 minutes of her home 8 years later. I originally met her as a guitar student. We became good friends as well as forming an awesome music partnership. www.montanayoung.com. I am very fortunate to have these two masterful musicians as business partners as well as extremely patient friends. Their abilities to take my criptic "I need something in here..." pick up their instruments, and add the perfect part to my song just blows me away. Their contributions are their creations and they each took a VERY personal approach to what they added. I don't tell them how to do their thing. Montana's vocals are laced throughout the CD. Her vocals appear solo on "Rag Doll" and "I'm Feeling Blue" because those songs needed her, not me. The CD is Dean Smith with Montana Young and Ron Stubblebine... I started in music when I was ten. Played every genre I could. Influenced by all of them. Being well versed on multiple instruments, I let the song tell me what it needs. If it needs brass...it gets brass,...strings... it gets strings. If it starts out country and turns rock, so be it. Creativity excells when there aren't limits and stipulations. Dean is a full time working musician, songwriter, producer, engineer and teacher. Actively promoting his third and most recent (July 2011) CD release "Marionettes", many times accompanied by Montana on violin and vocals as well as Ron on percussion. Performances range from solo acoustic to full band depending on venue and compensation. www.deansmithmusic.com Thanks for Listening and Shopping at CD Baby Dean
