Published: Wednesday, February 25, 2015 Melissa Weinstein, South Jersey High School junior, will performed her original music on Philadelphia's Alternative Radio 104.5 Live at 5 on Feb. 27. Weinstein was featured on the show, which aired on the radio and streamed live on the web, on Feb. 27 at 5 p.m. With nearly 1 million weekly listeners, Radio 104.5 plays a significant role in promoting modern rock from the 1990s to the present, giving an audience to such bands as Of Monsters and Men and Mumford & Sons. The Live at 5 program is part of the station’s commitment to the local Philadelphia music scene. Artists are invited to perform one original song and one cover song in front of a live audience. Weinstein wrote the lyrics and music for her original song, “How is Your Girlfriend?” The show will also feature her cover version of “Cough Syrup” by Young the Giant. This will be Weinstein’s fourth time on the popular radio station. “How is Your Girlfriend?” has been featured three times on the Radio 104.5 New Music Show, where the playlist includes the likes of Imagine Dragons, Hozier, and The Foo Fighters. Her song can also be heard on iTunes Rock Adult station and Spotify. Although her songs come to life based on personal experience, Weinstein won’t admit to who or what inspired her tale of unrequited love in “How is Your Girlfriend?” “It’s a song that so many people can relate to,” said Weinstein, as she explained the popularity of the catchy tune that highlights her sweet vocals and rhythm guitar. The song also taps the musical talent of Medford resident Emily McNally, a recent Shawnee High School graduate who is featured on piano. Weinstein's songs can also be heard on Itunes Adult Rock Radio Channel and are available for download on CDBABY.com, ITunes, Amazon and facebook.com/MelissaSingerSongwriter or @melissweinstein.
