简介

"Infinitely more touching than Antony"-- Vogue Italia "I love Carletta. She's a combination of Tammy Wynette, Bobby Gentry and Nick Cave. I love her singing and i love her songs. Great stories, no irony, just a big heart and a big voice" -- Mark Eitzel "Carletta's wilting bombast, set precipitously and wobbling on the fence between a field of eggshells and a river of knives, would make whimpering birds of the snarling petties if they had ears to hear"-- Tim Cohen (Fresh and Onlys) "Lotte Lenya and Edith Piaf combined, with all of the tragedy but far more humor"-- SF Weekly Carletta Sue Kay is named after singer-songwriter Randy Walker’s real-life cousin who served a prison sentence for domestic terrorism for threatening to blow-up her ex-boyfriend with a pipe bomb. This is an auspicious inspiration for a musical persona who, performing with an obvious five-o’clock shadow, sings heart-wrenching yet transformative songs of love, life, and relationships told from the perspective of a woman. CSK’s music gravitates toward the sadder side of life, lamenting much, regretting more. Minimalist arrangements for piano, cello, guitar and bass accentuate the solemn, at times morbid, themes of life and death. Carletta’s live performances have so riveted audiences that the band has already secured an international following—without releasing a single record. “Pas Le Même” is CSK’s first official digital release. CSK are: Randy Walker (Carletta Sue Kay) — Vocals Doug Hilsinger — Guitar, Keyboards, Drums, Production Randy Walker first explored his musical chops in Pentecostal churches in Eastern California. Unable to avoid the swirling vortex of Los Angeles, he worked as a professional actor (Equity card at 13), mostly singing and leaping about in musical theater, and was a featured extra on Michael Jackson’s film "Moonwalker." Upon his arrival in SF, Walker released a solo album, Daylight Never Exposed So Total a Ruin. A prolific songwriter, he next founded the legendary SF glam/punk band Mon Cousin Belge. MCB released their CD "Quelle Horreur" on World Famous in SF in 2008 to critical acclaim (with a single top 10 vote on Village Voice’s Pazz and Jop chart of 2008). As his non-Belgian cousin Carletta, Randy pursues his feminine side with songs written straight from the heart shooting directly to the back of your skull. Doug Hilsinger is a multi-instrumentalist stalwart of the SF music scene, and no stranger to flammable devices himself, having been a core member of SF’s legendary psycho-sexual assault known as BOMB (Warner Bros/ Boner). He was a member of the influential post-rock combo Gifthorse, as well as Waycross, Hallflowers, and many other bands. In 2004, he found a friend and fan in Brian Eno when he released a version of the glam rocker’s 1974 masterpiece, "Taking Tiger Mountain (By Strategy)," playing all the instruments himself. Hilsinger has worked with many artists, including The Flaming Lips, Melvins, Nirvana, Ween, Cracker, Bill Laswell, and LD Beghtol of The Magnetic Fields. A jack-of-all-trades, Hilsinger also does film/TV soundtrack work. Besides performing with Carletta Sue Kay, he also recorded and produced CSK’s debut 7” on Daddy Pony, as well as their forthcoming LP, "Incongruent."
