简介

Hold onto your hats as the psychedelic gypsy carnie-hop band so radical they named it thrice takes you on a journey of dance and mayhem. Referencing klezmer and Balkan music and traversing territory from hip-hop to rock and jazz, this is carnivalesque party music for the creatively inclined. Featuring dancer Niki Shi’s vaudevillian fusion of contemporary, classical, and folkloric performance styles. Get ready to boogie, gawp, and expand your perceptual horizons. Now touting their latest release The Cosmic Carnival (2016), the band have a concept album to accompany their concept show that has been blowing minds and destroying dance floors at festivals throughout Australia. In 2013 the band unleashed their third full-length album, Rumpapo, presenting a psychedelic meeting point between raucous gypsy sounds and progressive rock, and embarked on their most trail blazing tour to date. Since then the group have been continuously on the move, showcasing their work at internationally regarded festivals, special club nights, and boutique parties. Ungus Ungus Ungus features a flexible lineup ranging from a full 6-piece live band to a smaller ‘Soundsystem’ ensemble emphasising electronic production in tandem with live musicians. This has made them a favourite of both the folk and electronic festival circuits, with their theatrical bent taking them into the performing arts and circus worlds. The band has played festivals including Rainbow Serpent, Wangaratta Jazz, Fairbridge, Illawarra Folk, Subsonic, Burning Seed, The Town, Village Festival Melbourne, Sydney University Verge Arts Festival, Mount Beauty Music, Yackandandah Folk, Tanglewood, and Renaissance, as well as five national tours. Upon release of their first album, Giftwrapped Landmine (2010), Ungus Ungus Ungus had already played Peats Ridge Festival, as well as the Melbourne and Adelaide Fringe Festivals. With the release of their second album, Time For Your Bath (2012), the band took their sound to epic new and progressive dimensions. In the meantime they picked up shows at local festivals in Sydney, playing the main stage at Marrickville Festival, and the Students of Sustainability national environment and arts conference several years running. The band simultaneously crewed for and performed on the Renegade Stage at Newtown Festival two years in a row. With a background of facilitating and rocking out some of Sydney’s longest running underground events for the last decade, the Ungus camp are firmly grounded in grass roots musical culture, and delight in making community music happen.
