简介

"Like contemporary musical storytellers cut from the mold of John Bucchino, David Friedman and Stephen Schwartz, the songs of Scott Evan Davis are catching on like fire in cabaret circles. Each song is invigorated with a passion that is compelling." - John Hogland, Cabaret Scenes Among the new generation of articulate and inventive New York songwriters, Scott Evan Davis has emerged as one of the most promising, with a voice all his own. His second studio recording of eleven songs, arranged, conducted and co-produced by David Snyder, features a 12-piece orchestra and some of the brightest stars from Broadway, Australia, and London's West End. Taking part are Tony nominees Robert Cuccioli (Jekyll & Hyde) and Lisa Howard (Spelling Bee, It Shoulda Been You); Broadway veterans Karen Mason (Wonderland, Mama Mia!), Derek Klena (Wicked, The Bridges of Madison County), Joshua Colley (Elf, Les Miserables, A Bronx Tale); and, from the U.K. and Australia, Lucie Jones (Legally Blonde, Les Miserables), Stuart Matthew Price (Parade, The Rocky Horror Picture Show), and David Harris (Miss Saigon). The album also features the talents of cabaret stars Joshua Lance Dixon, Jamie Hartmann, Erik Sisco, Vicky Modica and Mikki Sodergren. Included in NEXT are two songs from his upcoming musical INDIGO, as well as collaborative efforts with lyricists Peter Napolitano ("This Land I Love") and Billy Daugherty ("Sail On"). The common thread in Scott's music is emotional honesty, as well as the humanity that we experience in moments of discovery and decision. Whether explored through the eyes of an autistic child ("If the World Only Knew" and "Behind the Words"), a conflicted mother ("I Can Be"), or an impatient wanderer who can't find his way ("Next'), the world is a place to embrace change and challenge. There's an ironic humor in acknowledging our coping mechanisms ("Everyone Has a Vice"), simple joy in feeling we belong ("Beautiful Home") and a profound sadness in moving on ("Save Me the Rose" and "Someone Else's Eyes"). Through it all, Scott has a unique way of sharing these characters' stories with us. The music and lyrics are full of fascinating twists and unexpected variations, with the lush orchestrations both framing and commenting on each story. NEXT is just what a second album should be - an evolution, full of heart and hope, always looking forward to the chapter ahead.
