"More Than Skies is the work of singer-songwriter and Long Island native Adam James. Though More Than Skies is a recent angsty folk-rock project, James has left his mark on a number of other projects. Dating back to 2006, he released solo work in addition to work he did in two bands, Sleep Bellum Sonno and The Vigilance Committee. As the years progressed, James took his experience and knowledge from previous work and turned it into what is now the emotional and melodic music of More Than Skies. More Than Skies is set to come out with a self-titled double LP on March 24th which aptly features 24 tracks. Despite being a solo project, More Than Skies features production expertise from Sainthood Reps’ Bradley Cordaro and mastering from Dan Coutant, providing musical insight across the extended release. Clearly this double LP has been in the works for quite a while, because no artist just wakes up one day with a 24-track record ready to go. It’s evident throughout the entire LP that More Than Skies dedicated a lot of time and put a lot of thought into this LP because each track builds on the last. No two songs sound a like, yet they all flow together to create a lasting story and impression on you in a way that most artists can only ever strive to do. What I love the most about More Than Skies is his ability to juxtapose airy, majestic, indie guitar riffs with the occasional introduction of gritty vocals and deeper, darker instrumentals. The best example of what I’m talking about could probably be seen in “Mistaking Discord For Memories”, one of many creative and emotionally provoking songs on the LP. Also, I completely die every time an artist works in other string instruments into their music and More Than Skies did just that. In particular, “A Sunday Afternoon Epilepsy” intertwines several string instruments to create this crazy masterpiece that paints the perfect picture of what the lyrics are trying to convey. All in all, I give More Than Skies 24 stars out of 5 because his music is just that amazing. I can’t wait to see what he does next — maybe come to Cleveland so I can hear his music live?
