A Journey of Spirit is a musical travelogue, a meditative excursion through environments that have left their beautiful and powerful impressions upon Amadhia's own spiritual journey. For the listener it traces an astral voyage from where one is, to places far beyond the distant horizon. (approx. album length: 55 minutes) A Journey of Spirit beings by lifting gently free from the "everyday," exploring the cosmic near-at-hand, as we ourselves exist within a celestial sphere. We then find ourselves in places both distant and familiar as we glide through nonlinear time and space. And between the worlds, we glimpse the clockwork of our universe; the bright rhythms that exist deep within all that our senses can perceive. The journey then returns to an Earth-like world, soaring above and within rich, inscrutable arctic expanses that are haven and home to so many. Looking heavenward, we swim within the Auroral waves, a song both of our own world and its harmonics with celestial events far beyond the reaches of our galaxy. The journey returns us to our own time and world just as sunlight once again touches the tundra. The arctic snows melt and the life within awakens to embrace the gift. We each are a part of our own world, and the echoes of our non-human brothers and sisters are always within our own songs of spirit, forever. Amadhia: Keyboards, Classical Flute, Native American Flute (wolfsong,) Voice (soprano) Amadhia grew-up in a tiny farming village in Michigan, (United States). Many of her afternoons were spent wandering the woods near her home. It is there that she learned to appreciate the wonder of the Natural World and the many different musics it holds. Her summers were spent at her grandparents', on the shores of one of America's "fresh water seas," Lake Michigan. Her grandfather shared an equal passion for music and for making musical instruments. Through him, Amadhia gained an appreciation of all forms of music, and a passion for both performing and composing. In her early 20's, Amadhia apprenticed to a master flute-maker on a commune high in the Virginia mountains. Wild, dry bamboo was harvested in Florida. Then, after the stalks had cured, she would help him turn the lengths into beautiful, performance-quality instruments that could truly bond with the spirit of its player. In 2001, Amadhia traveled to the Alaskan frontier for what was to be a year-long spirit-quest. Over the course of that first year she fell deeply in love with the profound majesty of the arctic wilderness. Occasionally she would see wolves on her hikes, and learned to howl together with them when their packs moved through the valley in which she lived. Mushing solo, north of the Arctic Circle in the Brooks Range, (the southern border of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge,) awakened within her a profound understanding of the preciousness and fragility of the gift of life. She was so moved by the creative and spiritual energies of the Arctic, that Amadhia remained on the frontier for nearly five years. Since then, Amadhia has performed, lectured and led guided meditations throughout Europe and North America. She is currently living in the wooded hills near Michigan's west coast not far from where her journey of music began.
