简介
by Matt Borghi The Shape of Solitude is a collaborative effort between ethno-ambient master Vidna Obmana and electric guitarist Serge Devadder that is reminiscent of True Stories, Vidna Obmana and Jeff Pearce's 1999 collaboration on the Canadian Mirage label, which subsequently had Serge Devadder soloing on the first track. It is a collection of atmospheres and solo works for guitar that, in places, has the quality of some of John Mclaughlin's early Mahavishnu Orchestra work, and in other places there's the trademark Vidna Obmana sound but with more dissonance and experimentation. The Shape of Solitude has some high points, but this record is very experimental in places and some of the ideas don't seem to ever fully develop. This album should not be a starting point for anybody that's interested in getting familiar with the fantastic and massive body of Vidna Obmana's work; while this is an interesting recording that truly illustrates the multi-dimensionality of that artist and the uniqueness of Serge Devadder's experimental, modal guitar playing, it's not representative of Obmana's previous work.
