简介
"It's in our DNA" Born and raised on the southside of Chicago, Illinois, brothers Vimont and Vernell Brogsdale have taken their influences and created a style that can only be described as 100% original. They were influenced by more than just hip hop, they grew up around all types of music. Their pop is a drummer and he was a part of a band called Energy, Time and Space. They used to rehearse at their house when they were kids, and were their biggest musical influence. They played jazz , r&b, and blues..If you listen, those undertones are apparent in the music they create. They grew up in the 90’s when hip-hop was everything and combined that sound with the sounds of their influences. C.O.A.S.T.A.L. started out as just a crew in high school and later evolved into a rap group, 10 members deep. Their friend Flash started the crew and was the first one to introduce Vimont and Vernell to the studio in 2003 and the 3 of them formed a trio. After coming back from a year of college, Flash asked Vimont and Vernell to make a record with him. Flash was their second largest musical influence. However, after signing to a local label, getting some radio play and opening up for Twista, Jadakiss and Do or Die at the Hip-Hop Explosion show, Flash decided to go his separate way. Losing one of their partners actually benefited them because they took matters into their own hands and kept pushing forward. They decided to invest in themselves and purchased studio equipment even though they knew nothing about producing music. Luckily they happened to run into Lue Vega who was an original high school member of the C.O.A.S.T.A.L. group. He had since become a music prodigy and still to this day handles most of their production work. What they want out of this music is to show what’s possible. “I think that’s the most important thing to us, says Vernell, “you can hear it in our lyrics, we want people to know that they are limitless”. They have some street music as they came from the hood 079, but C.O.A.S.T.A.L. stands for cutting out all separation to achieve life. If you listen to the music, you’ll get it. With versatile flows, one of a kind production, and lyrics that transcend time, their music is truly the soundtrack to the universe.
