简介

189 MHz presents MOYUGBÁ _____ NSISTA _____ “I salute you," say the sisters of NSISTA. And not in spanish or portuguese, but in yoruba, an african language. MOYUGBA marks the beginning of any kind of ritual, and the album by Marise aka djiiva*and Amarilis Vitale Cardoso is exactly that: a ceremony. As brazilian immigrants in Barcelona, NSISTA not only recognize their ethnically mixed background, but explore it thoroughly, delving into the very depths of the myths and sound of Afro-Brazilian culture. From this position, they embark on creating music and live performances that reflect tradition whilst transforming it into something completely new. As custom dictates, the ritual opens with “Axé Moyugba” in which Marise and Amarilis send a welcome greeting into a colorful space floating between african beats and bells and subtle electronic rhythms. They then evoke ¨Exu¨, the omnipresent messenger spirit, who paves the way, for the arrival of "Yansa", goddess of the wind and storms. She rushes in on drums, basslines and sensual vocals that gain momentum with the force of the rhythm, followed by her husband “Xango”, the powerful king of justice, who answers NSISTA's call with an expression of power and authority as he is also the god of drums and music. Fully entranced, “Caroço” is an irresistible invitation to dance, coursing with triangles, groovy guitars and bass drums, which segues into a festive tribute to "Ibeji", the god of play, happiness and innocence, amidst Afro-Brazilian rhythms, advanced electronica and a Barcelona children's choir. The ritual culminates with an electric forrozinho, “Salve Jorge”, in which NSISTA thank Sant Jordi for his protection with a free-flowing rap. Released through the new 189MHz platform, MOYUGBA is the lucid expression of two musicians who understand that in order to create a new language and launch it into a globalized world, one must first forge a strong connection to one's roots. Simultaneously concrete and spiritual, reverent and daring in equal measure, and as close to the damp earth as it is to the dance floor, NSISTA's debut invites listeners to get caught up in their spell and sense of amazement.
