简介
by Patrick KennedyZeke's debut album is a kinetic admixture of buzzsaw, drugged-out garage rock and amphetamine-fueled punk. Produced by All and the Descendents' Bill Stevenson, Super Sound Racing benefits from excellent production, even if the tunes aren't necessarily on par with later material. That, of course, is why this is a debut album -- it's the sound of a band cutting its teeth, sawing away until it has found its proper voice. Former bassist Dizzy Lee Roth shared vocals with frontman Blind Marky Felchtone at this juncture, and that is more or less to the detriment of the album. Again, it's a debut, and fortunately, from this point on, Feltchtone carried the vocals alone, using his rat-in-a-cage yowl to great effect. Fortunately, he can also carry a tune, though not as sleazily as, say, Bon Scott, whom he resembles vocally in an oblique manner. As was consistent with this developmental period for the band, the songs are either automotive or drug-themed, and one supposes that it's always safer to stick to things you know well then to venture into uncharted territory.
