This anthology of accomplished percussionists of Arabian, chiefly Egyptian, music is very fine...if you seek rhythm and not melody. All of the tracks of this 65-minute collection are solo dumbek (tabla) drumming of strong but varied rhythms, some associated with classic belly dancing. Brief biosketches are included of these artists: Gama Goma, Setrak Sarkissian; Issam Houshan; Susu Pampanin; Reda Darwish; Khamis Henkish; Sayed Madbouli; Safad Srour; Hamdi El Khayyat; Fathi Gamar; Said El Artist; Ahmed of Egypt, Fathi Amin; and Smair Sofi. The recordings are useful for learning or appreciating the various rhythmic structures, but they also lead to dancing, as I found myself doing. For a casual listener, however, the album gets old fast. Thus, it is a niche album but among the very best.
