Nicole Sutka is an electric bass playing phenomenon. She started playing woodwinds at five years old. Electric bass came a little later when Nicole's high school band director gave her a 1960's Fender Precision bass to play with the Jazz band. Nicole continued her passion for music studying jazz and musical education at Umass Amherst. In her first professional debut Nicole performed as the bassist, flutist and vocalist in the groups; Stone Lily, Fat Man Tow, For Chameleon (with Joe Nelson and Matt Dean), Soul Purpose (with Eric Krasno of Soulive), East Coast Edge Machine (with Rob Mitzner, Audrey Ryan and Nate Cronin), Hilary Noble, Ken LaRoche, D-licks, George Lesiw, the smile makers, Luscious Lushes, Secret Sage, Gov't Surplus, Fusion Junction, daFunk (with Mike Gianfriddo), Jim Devlin, Niki Luparelli, Lisa Marie. She has recorded with Paddy Saul, James Kamal Jones and McMike D, Secret Sage, and Stone Lily. Nicole studied jazz and improvisation with Archie Shepp and Yusef Lateef, her style of playing reflects the influences of both of these great mentors. Nicole is the voice of social consciousness, and her passion for improvisation is a hallmark of emotional fervor. Her songs blend Hip-Hop, Jazz, prog-rock and indie-rock genres with vocal harmony, wood-wind interludes and pulsing bass lines.
