A.D.
简介
“They give birth astride of a grave, the light gleams an instant, then it's night once more.” - as Samuel Beckett writes it in his remarkable play Waiting for Godot. Like Beckett, the new album of Ábris Gryllus also aims to confront us with the bottomless depth of our finitude. This attempt is already palpable in the very slow and solemn tempo of the four-movement piece. A peculiar approximately 17 BPM tempo, also known as grave in musical terms. In that sense, the new album A.D. of Gryllus is both a continuation as well as a further elaboration of the unique musical language he has already started to develop on his previous EP Post_ (2017) released by Farbwechsel Records. The compositions on the A.D. album also have a distinguished spatial quality that can be best described as an immersion into the dark sonic ocean of our innermost existence. The carefully crafted, slowly elapsing modular ambient sound textures constantly unfold into various intimate auditory scenes that, at the same time, always evoke a majestic orchestral aura. The new album of Gryllus Ábris is both cryptic and yet expressive; uncanny and yet sensual; grievous and yet sublime; monotonous and yet versatile. Just like its title A.D. that can be deciphered in multiple ways: Anno Domini Another Dualism Afterlife Dependence Artificial Discipline Adaptive Desires Anthropomorphic Decadence Agile Dynamics After Death VIXI - Zsolt Miklósvölgyi
