简介
I can't comment on the quality of the songs, but I can say the emotional content is the real thing. This music is made from fresh-squeezed love, not the "from concentrate" kind. Romantic? Pathetic? All of the above? This is a studio recording made in layers over a period of a year and a half. The songs were recorded in the same pattern. Ken and Phil (bass and drums) would come to the studio never having heard the songs, and while equipment was being set up they would listen to the solo guitar version and map out the structure. The bass and drum parts that resulted are a testament to the musical instincts of those guys. The drum track on "Green Light" was a first take, which is phenomenal. Multiple guitar tracks were usually then applied (replacing the guide guitar track done with the bass and drums), and other flavours were provided by great players in turn. Tyler Kealey laid down some stellar piano on diverse tracks; dobro was tastefully added by Chris Barkley; sweet pedal steel was provided from his studio by Al Bragg, giving us several tracks of chording and solos to mix-and-match with Tyler's piano track on "First Corinthians' (Al and Tyler didn't hear each others parts during the recording); Greg T. Brown came in and did a great job on multiple instruments playing fiddles, bango and accordion on "Jamming with Danny", doing textures and playing it out with "Christmas Eve", the traditional Irish tune, which again showed off Ken and Phil's abilities to lay down bed tracks without any other music present. On the three fiddle tracks, John Dahms laid down some great unison playing (3 separate fiddle parts on each of 3, 6 and 9) to give those tracks some big-sounding fiddle. Thanks for the great playing guys. The whole recording was done under the wing of producer James Stephens who has the wide taste in music necessary to get the sounds sounding right.
