Before I delve into the depths of this song, I must raise awareness concerning what I'm singing about. 2 in every 3 have cancer and the cancer that Sophie has is leukemia - the cancer of the bone marrow or blood. A cancer is formed when the cells are exposed to a degree of radiation and this causes the cells not to work properly. Although there is currently radiotherapy and chemotherapy available for cancer sufferers, many cancers are still terminal and incurable. Sophie Brown is one of the bravest girls I know. I'm aware thats what everyone says about people they know who suffer cancer, but I went to school with her and to reconnect with her a few years ago was amazing. When this happened, predicatably I was distraught but the sublime strength that she has shown inspired me to write this and all I know is that Sophie has made a huge impression on my life and I tried to show this through Don't Wake. Its soft and sensuous tone and gentle texture is the exact impression I was going for. If you're reading this Sophie, or anyone else who knows the pain and heartache of cancer - stay strong.
