This album is a combination of quartet and trio music. The instrumentation is bass, drums, and guitar, with keyboards on the quartet tracks. These original compositions are rock influenced in terms of their grooves, but are definitively jazz in terms of their melodies and harmonies. The overall sonic picture of this recording has an expansive rock sound, yet it also features a delicate jazz sensibility. Compositionally, techniques such as 12-tone rows, the axis system, and multiple time signatures are used.
