Joe McGowan is an American singer, songwriter and keyboardist whose music draws from many genres, including, country, pop, Americana, Indie Rock, and roots revival. He began playing piano by ear at age 4 and began formal lessons at age 6. McGowan attended the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts in piano performance during high school. He began writing music at a very young age, but most of his early works were based heavily in piano improvisation. McGowan graduated with honors from medical school, dermatology residency and fellowship in dermatologic surgery. He currently practices Dermatologic and Mohs Micrographic Surgery in Charleston, SC but spends an equal amount of time writing, producing and recording original music. He is a member of the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI) and the National Association of Recording Industry Professionals (NARIP). In 2016, McGowan was a finalist in the Great American Song Contest for two entries, “The Hunter” and “Rainbow.” His debut album, “Dirt Road Revival” features original music about escape, overcoming adversity, gay rights activism and embracing one’s authentic self.
