http://thebagisbrown.com/ Is it the music or the message? For hard charging modern rock up-and-comers Brownbag the answer is both. The two are so intertwined as to be inseparable. Brownbag delivers melodic guitar driven rock as catchy as it is thought provoking. But the music is only part of what makes this band so special. Brownbag is adamantly passionate about spreading the message of Jesus Christ. "I won't compromise a lyric to make a song marketable," says Dayv."I believe that music is a gift to be shared and if people can find Christ through this music, we, through His love can make this world a better place." "I want our music to relate to people who don't know Jesus," offers Bryan. "That's what Brownbag is about--leading people to Him." Dayv Carter (vocalist) and Bryan Carter (guitarist) were both born in California, but their family moved to Alabama when they were still young. Their father taught them how to play guitar, Dayv at age 13 and Bryan beginning at age 10. While the first songs they learned were country and gospel tunes, the brothers soon discovered Floyd, Queen and Def Leppard which influenced their love for rock music. In their early teens they started a garage rock band. Then after becoming born again believers in Christ Jesus, they began to listen to Christian rock bands such as DC Talk, Third Day, and others, that paved the way for them to start writing and producing their own style of music for Christ. "I got saved one Sunday morning after leaving a recording session with our rock band," says Dayv. "I, then, started driving a truck for a few years, because after becoming a Christian I felt like my music life was over. I was told that Christians couldn't play this type of music, even if it has religious words, and that Christian rock was wrong. Later, I began to see that wasn't true, that all music is given by God" The Carter brothers realized that they could build a ministry with their music. That's when they decided to meld their influences into a potent and original blend of melodic and gritty rock. With the help of some very talented friends, Michael Keeton, (drums) Marty Jackson, (guitar) and Kevin Thomas (bass), they put a band together, named it "brownbag", and soon began composing music and lyrics for their debut project. "My standards are high for the music we do, because I want the music we play to be something I'd love to listen to," says Bryan. "I don't believe in writing songs to just fill up space on a record. I try my best to make every song the best it can be". There is a power and grace in faith expressed through an artistic vision. Brownbag's music is a wonderful example of that. It will touch your heart and stir your soul. This is a band, after all, that is about the music and the message.
