简介
The piano stylings of José Melis reflect many moods, but he is always the epitome of taste and distinction. Here, in ‘Mellow Melis,’ he adds a touch of serenity to his usual rippling, flighty quality and the result is a blend of overall freshness and warm sensitivity. He has succeeded in capturing those cherished, romantic moments that somehow always seem to fade away and can never be regained. Mellow as the mood may be, there’s always a bit of optimism expressed in José’s visionary keyboard variations. A case in point is the parting-is-such-sweet-sorrow swing ballad, Baby, Don’t Stay Too Long, which predicts a speedy reunion. It’s followed by the lullaby-like harmonies of muted brass, flutes and clarinets, guitar and José’s rhapsodic piano in the ballad charmer, Gotta See A Dream About A Girl. Then bongos, guitar, and bass join José in the tantalizing rumba inquiry, Why Steal My Heart. But perhaps a stolen heart is better than one that is Lost. In the next tune, José and the Orchestra translate the void of loneliness that follows a forlorn love affair into a mood of beautiful balladry. One remedy for a broken heart, is to get away from it all. The enticing invitation to lead a castle-in-the-air existence in a land where dreams always come true and love endures forever is proffered in the imaginative ballad which closes Side A… Come With Me. Side B begins on the true road to happiness, the romantic journey that leads From Here To Love. In I Knew, the ballad mood continues as the orchestra interprets the sudden realization of a person who gambled with love and lost. Everyone wins, though, in the glamorous surroundings and sophisticated atmosphere of an apartment nestled on the rooftop, as José and the Trio break out piano, guitar, bass and bongos for a polished Penthouse Rumba. But when it comes to dancing, the man with probably the most know-how is Arthur Murray.?José and his Orchestra dedicate a three-quarter time tune to the “mentor of the correct step” with Jack Irwin supplying the vocal, in The Arthur Murray Waltz. The album closes with a beautifully melodic and mellow mood piece that explores the mysterious transparent mist After A Summer Rain.
