The medieval troubadours surfed the line between meaning and sound: their songs talked about love affairs, birds, and flowers, but those were also excuses for sonic fireworks of word games and rhymes. The French poetry of Mallarme´ rekindles a similar idea and hovers around wispy notions of pure sound and nothingness. In this album the trio Zamler-Carhart Rauh Greenberg improvises on troubadour poetry and Mallarme verses, bringing to life emotions, images, and a story, but also an abstract sound world of vowels and consonants.
