Ben Walker was born in London, England, in 1968, moving to the rural county of Suffolk in 1980. He started writing songs in 1983 and releasing albums on cassette in 1990. After studying jazz singing in New Jersey in 1992, Walker moved on to Toronto, where he became a busker in the subway as well as a popular open stage performer before returning to London for a year and gaining a first class degree in Performance Arts from Middlesex University. From 1994-8 Walker worked as a freelance musician before moving to the north of England, where his CD 'Bahaudin' was made in 2001. A steady period of gigging from 2002-6 was followed by a creative period that culminated in the launches of 2 new CDs – ‘An Orphan’s Song: Ben Walker Sings Stuart Ross’ and ‘Kill or Cure’ in 2008. Walker moved back to Toronto in 2010 , appearing with Gare Black and Alfred Gertler as 'Ben and Gary's Ice Cream Band' in 2011/12. The latest BW CD is ‘Gorgeous’, a reworking of 12 early compositions recorded and produced by Walker and featuring his customary diverse selection of styles and musicians.
