简介

Born in Upper Hutt, New Zealand to a then unemployed single mother, Aaron Wyatt also known as Kapabal began his youth and was raised in the Lower Hutt suburb of Stokes Valley. Being influenced by Hip Hop at a young age right into his teenage years, Kapabal began rapping. His new found love of Hip Hop flourished after his mother married then re-located the family to Upper Hutt. By age 18, the then freshman MC had been active in Hip Hop, forming a crew with some of the local talent, launching his independent label ‘Superior 4tress’ and even hosting a weekly Hip Hop show at the local radio station where they also put on events showcasing music from some of the local artists as well as live freestyles. The year 2002 saw the release of Kapabal’s first independently released street album: The Abal One, which was sold by hand in and around the greater Wellington region and which also received a small but significant distribution nationwide. Quietly establishing himself as an accomplished freestyler among his peers, Kapabal became a regular with the local battle scene and open mic nights to hone his skills eventually leading to performing at gigs. Kapabal’s experience as an artist and performer grew, regularly performing on stage and producing an extensive catalog of music some of which appeared on various mix-tapes. In 2005 Kapabal’s life took an unfortunate turn when his partner of 3 years sadly took her own life. In her memory Kapabal released the single ‘Even Though Ur Gone’ in 2005 donating 100% of the proceeds to suicide prevention. This event then leads Kapabal to start his own trust ‘The Rainy Days Prevention of Suicide’. After experiencing the tragic loss of his partner, Kapabal continued to make music mainly for therapeutic reasons and for the love of Hip Hop culture. In 2007 Kapabal produced the first instalment in a series of DVDs entitled ‘Street Heavy DVD: Volume 1’, showcasing some of the best talents in New Zealand Hip Hop, local and nationwide. 2008 saw the release of ‘Street Heavy DVD: Volume 2 and after resurfacing many year’s worth of unreleased tracks, independently released the critically acclaimed studio album ‘Before Now’ featuring a star studded line up of local artists and featuring heavy production from New Zealand Hip Hop pioneer Tyna Keelan. In the wake of the release of the album a street video was shot for the first single ‘Spread this Word’; and with a very low budget, still managed to garner the attention of the New Zealand Hip Hop community and was also featured on nationwide TV. Through growth, maturity, and experience Kapabal released the album ‘No Rest’ in 2011; an album with few features and which focuses solely on Kapabal himself - his trials, tribulations, shortcomings and successes. The album ‘No Rest’ featured the singles ‘Touch the Sky’ and ‘Flammable’, both had featured videos which achieved extensive radio & TV play nationwide. Over the ensuing years Kapabal’s persistent grind saw him perform around New Zealand, with countless gigs throughout both the Wellington and Hutt Valley regions. He was featured in newspapers and magazines including a spotlight in the ‘Who’s Next’ section of New Zealand’s premier Hip Hop magazine - Back2Basics. He also hosted the Lyricist Lounge in Lower Hutt. A monthly Hip Hop event that lasted 2 years. 2012 saw the final instalment of the Street Heavy Series: ‘Street Heavy DVD: Volume 3’ and with a brand new baby packed up left the confines of the hood for Australia. With his sights still set on the music and becoming the best artist he can possibly be, Kapabal in 2013 re-emerged in Australia with new goals and objectives enlisting the help of close associate Impakt and long-time friend and collaborator Spectak, forming the Brisbane based Hip Hop group ‘Built For This’ along with up and coming rapper’s Big Mars, and serial lyricist G.Son, all of whom are Brisbane based New Zealanders. During this time Kapabal has been instrumental in the movement of the Brisbane Hip Hop scene and in 2014 while balancing life with his pursuits, Kapabal was blessed with the birth of a second son, and releases the single ‘The Downside’ featuring Bo Roc from the legendary group The Dove Shack. With an extensive catalogue and experience spanning over more than 10 years in the music industry, countless collaborations with some of the best artists in New Zealand as well as international artists the likes of Thirsten Howl the 3rd (collaborated with Eminem, Beatnuts, Talib Kweli and more), Craig G (wrote all the battle raps for the 8 Mile movie excluding Eminem’s parts) and Bo Roc from The Dove Shack (sang the hit Summertime In The LBC and was signed to Warren G) to name a few. Also featuring on several international mix-tapes as well as one hosted by 50 Cent and one by Trae Tha Truth; both with over half a million downloads. Kapabal has come a long way from his wild adolescent days and has become a man who’s music now not only directly reflects his life, but who’s drive and commitment to the music infallibly expresses the true meaning of Independent.
