简介
Katie began writing about five years ago; this EP includes four of her favorite picks of the songs that she's written since she started back in high school. Katie was first inspired to try writing music after she learned Sara Bareilles' "Love Song," on the piano. Classically trained in both piano and voice for a number of years, writing became the way that she could experiment with music and make it her own. This developed her passion for learning, playing, and singing, which motivated her to study more about pop-piano styles. Through the use of chord sheets and ear training, Katie began learning the music of Ben Folds, Jon McLaughlin, and John Mayer, three artists from which she draws much inspiration. In college, Katie landed a gig at a dueling piano bar in Indianapolis. There, she learned to play over one hundred cover songs from many different artists and decades, as well as having to learn electric bass and drums. This gave her far more knowledge about rhythmic piano playing and song writing, providing her with several goals to add unique aspects to her own music as she continued. These four songs are compilations of Katie's experiences throughout high school and college. The first track on the EP, "Tired," was written after Katie was realizing that a lot of her music was on the "sad and slow side." Frustrated by failed relationships and writer's block, "Tired" came from an angry sit down to the piano that relieved those fears and tensions. For Katie, that's exactly what writing has always been: a way to express herself through words and music that helps bring perspective on the bad days. Katie's desire is for her music to bring that same kind of relate-ability and perspective to her listeners. Katie's debut EP HappiMess was produced and recorded by Danger House Studios in Cleveland, OH. Katie plays piano and sings on the album, while Matt DeRubertis slaps the bass and Anthony Foti rocks out on the drums. We sincerely hope you enjoy it!
