Nantucket singer-songwriter Amy England released new music June 19 on a cd called “Summertown”, “It is a collection of tribute songs to summertime”, says England, “There is such nostalgia and longing surrounding summer months- they cut so deeply and pass so quickly, leaving dreamy threads etched in our minds. I have tried to catch some of that essence in these songs, and living here on Nantucket has certainly influenced the songs.” Cd release concert end of June- check website for more concert dates. England toured in the southern states this winter and was featured on Miami’s NPR station, before going into the studio in April with engineer John Simpson. Simpson, an audio engineer in East Nashville, is known for his authentic approach to recording. “Creating an unaffected sincere sound is important, trying not to let the production get in the way of the music.” The eleven tracks on the album give the feeling a campfire on the beach or a barn party with guitars, mandolin and fiddle. “Working with John was wonderful” says England, “it was a very comfortable, informal setting allowing me to relax and perform naturally. He brought it some great players and we had a lot of fun.” England has been touring to promote her last cd, “Nantucket to Nashville”, performing at festivals & concerts including opening for country greats, Kathy Mattea and Jo Dee Messina. Songs from “Nantucket to Nashville” were picked up by prominent Nashville publishers and recorded by several bluegrass bands. England is finalist in the New England Songwriting Contest at Ossipee Valley Music Festival and The Old Oak Songwriting Festival in Texas. A single off the new album “End of the Summer” is being considered for a film sound track. Born Amy Harding Hunt, England was raised in Pound Ridge, NY to a large family of six children. Her music and writing is steeped in family tradition. "Our dad brought us up on Country music. He was an editor, but played banjo on the side and my mom was always playing the piano and singing with us. My grandmother made sure we all had piano lessons; she was a great fiddle player herself. She loved us to be in touch with our Irish roots through music. Amy often performs with her siblings, including Andrew and Nancy of The Hunts.
