Shokanti approaches the mic with a unique expression of hip hop, theater, and social consciousness. Shokanti is a collaborator with Nomadic Wax, a premier international hip hop company, with whom he has been invited as a lecturer/performer for Harvard University, Berklee College of Music, Umass Boston, Umass Dartmouth, Yale University, Brandeis University, Bridgewater University, John C. Smith College, Providence College amongst many other venues. Shokanti has been featured on Vibe magazine, MTV iggy.com, Radio France International, Rolling Stones magazine, and Afropop.com as well as many other media outlets as a good representation of african hip hop. For more than a decade, Shokanti has collaborated with legendary Cape Verdean musician Djim Job with one album released in 2009 featuring number 1 ranked songs in the popular media programs CVMIX and PRAIAFM. Shokanti has become a recognized name in the global Hip Hop circuit with consistent performances at various national and international music festivals. He has been a headliner at the Trinity International Hip Hop Festival along with legendary hip hop artist KRS ONE, Talib Kweli amongst many others and performed at the first international stage for the A3C Music festival in Atlanta along with over 100 influential emerging hip hop artists in the United States. Shokanti recently performed at the Brooklyn Academy of Music for an international hip hop showcase and was invited to perform in 2014 at the ONE MiC: Hip Hop Culture Worldwide Festival at the kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington DC. This festival included artists such as Nas, Grandmaster flash, Lauryn Hill, Anita Tijoux, Jean Grae, dynamic Duo and many others. Shokanti became the first Cape Verdean hip hop artist to perform at Palácio do Governo (Governamental Palace) in Cape Verde Islands during the celebration of culture day. In 2015, Shokanti was distinguished with the prestigious First Degree Honorable Mention Medal and Award by the Prime Minister of Cabo Verde for his contribution to the culture of Cabo Verde.Shokanti Blending both the rhythms and soul of Cape Verde with the American African creation of hip-hop, Shokanti is an artist who uses the language of kriolu to paint stories of the past, present and future.
