In the last couple of years, more and more fans of instrumental guitar music became aware of an interesting guitar player from Hungary. This new guy on the scene, Jonas Tamas, sounds a bit different than your “average” guitar hero. Jonas Tamas has played with several bands in his country, making successful gigs on the biggest rock festival in Central Europe, Sziget Festival. It is a very diverse album, with songs ranging from progressive metal, through neoclassical shred to bluesy riffage, pure hard rock to mellow moments with piano and acoustic guitars. As Jonas states in interviews, he strives to put unexpected elements, sounds and approaches in his music, sometimes by using uncommon scales or modal changes (like the appearance of the special “Locrian natural 6” scale in the main riff of Locrian Locusts), or combining the heaviest segments with delightful acoustic passages (for example in the song entitled Stormbeaten, which tells the story about the formation and the raging of a huge storm).
