Blades of Steel are live hip hop done right, the result of combining two of Calgary’s most talented and prolific MCs with a crack band of incredible musicians for a great mix of originals and cover tunes. In 2012, their first full year of existence, Blades of Steel launched themselves onto the Alberta scene, with high profile festival appearances, sold out club shows and positive coverage from X92.9, CJSW, Fast Forward Magazine and the Calgary Herald. In 2013, the band goes national, with a string of appearances, and the release of their debut EP, 'Like a Calf in a Tube Sock' on April 20, 2013. MC Ricca Razor Sharp is a fixture on the hip hop scene, co-hosting the popular ’10 at 10’ monthly hip hop showcases, and having played 100s of shows, corporate and charity events, and festivals (including NXNE, five times). SoLeo, also a veteran, is a slick and thoughtful MC, with pitch perfect delivery. Together, the two are one of Calgary’s favorite MC combos, and with the added force of live 4-piece instrumentation, the entertainment level is increased exponentially. Blades of Steel harkens back to hip-hop’s storied roots in funk, rock and dance music, but present their sound with a contemporary spin. Their set, combining exciting originals, engaging covers, and crowd-pleasing freestyles, is earning them fans every time they play.
