简介

The Marlowes are a four-piece rock & roll/power pop band from Providence, Rhode Island. The Marlowes' fourth full-length disc, Sugarbursts and Thunderbolts, was released on September 17, 2002 on Shiny Fly Records. The new CD features the tracks "If You Wouldn't Mind," "In Spite of Everything" and the infectious first single and lead-off track, "Because of a Girl," which has already been added to the playlists of college and commercial stations throughout the world. The Marlowes' last album, Nuclear Suitcase, was released on Shiny Fly Records in 2000 and made several critic's "Best Of the Year" lists, received a glowing review in Rolling Stone (Germany) and was voted by the listener's of Spain's influential TELEMADRID RADIO 101.3 /106 FM as the best indie album of the year. After recording their debut 7" single, "Shanghaied" b/w "Wink," on Silent Wing Records in late 1994, the band released their first full-length CD, Andrea's Sidewalk on Red Eye Records in November of 1995. The album's accessible, melodically-charged tunes enabled the Marlowes to receive their first significant national exposure via radio, touring and mounds of favorable press. The band's next release, 1998's Same Dog Barks, was also blessed with enthusiastic reviews and sales as well as significant airplay in France, Brazil, Japan, Australia and Spain. The Marlowes also played at the influential International Pop Overthrow Festival in Los Angeles in August of 1998 at the storied El Rey Theater on a bill that included Velvet Crush, the Tories and John Faye of the Caulfields. The Marlowes have also contributed to quite a few domestic and international compilation CDs. The band's version of George Harrison's "Old Brown Shoe" appears on this year's tribute He Was Fab to the Beatle great on Jealousy Records based in Syracuse, NY. In 2001, they contributed their version of the Replacements' "Alex Chilton" to Left of the Dial: A Pop Tribute to the Replacements on New Jersey's Face Down Records. 2000 found the Marlowes contributing to a slew of compilation albums including: "Why Didn't I Think of That?" on Somewhere Down The Road on Lazy Cat Records in Japan alongside pop stalwarts Richard X. Heyman, Charlie Chesterman (ex-Scruffy The Cat) and Chris Von Sneidern. "Split Screen" landed a spot on the Beat Party comp. on Japan's Barn Homes Records. An early unreleased demo, "Fourth Time Today" was chosen to be on Spanish label Bam Balam's comp. Bam Balam V. The track "Spell It Out" was placed on German label Screaming Apple's power pop compilation Pop Gun 2000. The Marlowes' energetic live show continues to attract attention, with opening spots with such national artists as Marshall Crenshaw, the BoDeans, Drivin' 'N Cryin', Nick Lowe, NRBQ and Steve Forbert, as well as headlining shows themselves throughout the U.S. Look for them in your hometown real soon!
