In 1983 he started playing the piano and by ‘89 he had also taken up the trumpet. Reading and writing music by the turn of the decade, he became a member of the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra in ’91, and joined the Jazz Band at McKinley High, performing for school functions by ’93. His motivation comes from his love for music and the early recognition that understanding and speaking the language of music was his gift. His influences include Earth Wind and Fire, Frankie Beverly and Maze, Cameo, Bootsie Collins, Ohio Players, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, Outkast and Prince. As demand for Michael’s Urban/Hip-Hop production grew in the early 2000’s, He found him self searching for new creative outlets where He could showcase his skilled musicianship. In 2008 shortly after Michael relocated to Hollywood in search for new production opportunities he has a chance meeting with the Legendary Father M.C. Less than 1 week later after his meeting with Father M.C., the Rap legend hired Michael to be the full time studio engineer for his label Da Noise/Universal. Under the guidance of his new mentor Father M.C., Michael learned the business of music and the art of networking. The networking skills he acquired at Da Noise/Universal changed his career. In early 2009 Michael began working on Skee-Lo's OVERDOSE EP (www.cdbaby.com/cd/SkeeLo2), which marked the return of the Multi-Platinum & Grammy nominated artist. Michael’s track titled “308 Days (Extended Mix)” became a fixture in the opening of Skee-lo’s performances. Later on that same year Michael went on to produce for artists such as Doc Ice of Whodini, Paul “Sequence” Ferguson of Guru’s Jazzmatazz, Knoc-turn’al & At All Costs (who then went on to win the Bohemian 2009 North Bay Hip-Hop Artist of the Year Award). Following this string of accomplishment Michael felt it was time to expand. He pitched a joint-venture deal to the staff at Premier Entertainment Group and by January 2010 Michael LaMotte went from record producer to label owner. His label, “KolordPimp Productions“, signed its first artist J-Von (www.cdbaby.com/cd/jvon). Before Michael focused on his own career development, He felt it was important to go back to his roots and put the Baton Rouge based rapper and long time friend in a position to be heard. Several months later Michael released “Urban Jazz Lounge, Vol. 1”, is his first solo album of experimental, smooth & romantic lounge music. In a 2010 interview Michael was quoted: “My advice to anyone with a gift is: be diligent at your craft and never forget where your roots.”
