For many years, I was a letter carrier for the US Postal Service. I had lunch one day in a local restaurant a few weeks before Christmas. As all of the happy, bouncy Christmas songs were playing on the radio, the waitress and I began to talk about the fact that Christmas wasn’t happy for everyone. We talked about all of the people who had lost loved ones that year and all of the people who were having financial difficulties. She said, “Why doesn’t someone write a Christmas song for them?!” So I did.
