简介

Five years after The Dwellers excellent, though largely ignored, EMI Records debut Whatever Makes You Happy, Before You Save the World finds the band, now called simply Dweller with a few new members but the same gritty and expertly crafted rock. Leader/frontman John Andriani's radio-ready songwriting chops are completely intact, making it doubly unfortunate that Dweller was dropped from EMI, effectively negating a great album's opportunities for mass airplay. Surprisingly though, considering it's self-released, this record is actually a hair slicker and poppier than the group's first effort. That said, Before You Save the World retains all of the T-Rex/Cheap Trick/New York Dolls nastiness that made the debut such a pleasure, plus adds a dose of the kind of maturity and wistful melancholy that only experience and hard luck can produce. Stand out tracks include the title cut, which is a sweeping "All the Young Dudes" or "Let it Be" style ballad, and "If I Were Superman," the perfect red-caped rocker for those who think that that Five For Fighting song is just a bit too drippy. Also here is a somewhat curious re-recording of "Rocket Ride," which doesn't really improve on the original, but works well in the context of the album. Overall, Before You Save the World makes one wonder why the Black Crowes are successful though they haven't written a good song since 1992, while Dweller labor in obscurity pumping out one kick ass "shoulda-bin-a-Top-Ten" tune after another. - Pemberton Roach Also known as The Dwellers, dweller officially began in 1987.In 1995 their single " Rocket Ride " gained significant radio airplay in the Midwest, New York and Florida, The Dwellers picked up the opening slot on Adam Ant's 1995 "Wonderful" world tour and set out with Adam in mid 1995. Due to Adam taking ill midway through the tour, they set out alone to promote themselves - playing some radio shows with The Goo-goo Dolls & Jewel which were well received by their audiences. After EMI had optioned a second record the label in New York was to be dissolved, leaving John time to write & submit songs to other artists. Replete with new material, he was compelled to reform the band and head back to the studio. With a new lineup featuring guitarist Mike Milazzo, drummer Martin Stroh and original dweller bass player Rick Amado, dweller went to Acme Recording Studios with Producer Peter Denenberg ( Spin Doctors, Joan Osborne, Boz Scaggs ...)Click on Music, if you like what you hear go see them live and buy their CD. Dweller dwells in New York.
