Attacks and retreats. Structure and disorder. Subtleties and blatancies. From five distant points of Michigan come the five young men of The Fifty. Their songs live somewhere on the edge of pop music, sprinkled with equal parts distortion and clean, catchy harmonies. Two balanced guitars, unpredictable rhythm, steady bass and sassy keyboards fill out their five-piece sound. Although still relatively new to the sport of rock, they are no rookies, having spent years writing and performing in other bands. Sure, there are many new local bands chasing a quick piece of Detroit hype. But The Fifty, with dedication, intelligence, and disgust for musical fads, won’t quit until those bands are outlived.
