With a strong affinity for the roots of American music, resides soulful and fierce singer-songwriter Kimmi Bitter. She is a blues, soul, and rock singer local to San Diego, CA. Destined to be a songwriter since her childhood years, but debilitated by the anxiety of public performing, she was deemed a closet player for the first half of her music endeavor only singing for friends with the lights turned off and the help of liquid courage. Initially writing acoustic beach music, her beginnings as a shy acoustic singer-songwriter originated in the dive bars and coffee shops of San Diego until her stage fright could be maintained. Working down the history of rock and roll, she stumbled upon an old late 1920’s blues recording “It’s Nobody’s Fault but Mine” by bottleneck slide guitarist Blind Willie Johnson. Awestruck by the integrity and honesty of the song, she set off to ditch her coffee shop ways and make it her mission to play music that was raw, honest, and intentional. Heavily influenced by the roughness of old records and female powerhouses, such as Etta James, Janis Joplin, Linda Ronstadt, and Big Mama Thornton, her voice is a vessel for truth and soul. Currently, Kimmi frequently plays around the venues of Southern California with her band Kimmi Bitter & Co.
