简介
Having grown up in the foothills of East Tennessee, I learned how to sing harmony at a very early age...it was our favorite pastime! Mom would listen to the local preachers and order song books from their radio shows. The song books were words only, no music, but we'd learn the song by listening to the radio broadcast, then go to the piano or guitar and figure out the chords. When we were given a TV by a relative (I was in the 6th grade at that time), we got to watch very few programs because they were too "worldly". The one show we were allowed to watch was the Grand Old Opry, and we learned to love the harmonies of Flatt & Scruggs, Jim & Jesse, The Osborne Brothers, and other groups that showcased harmony singing. As we grew older, we were drawn to the groups who continued that tradition...JD Crowe & The New South, The Country Gentlemen, Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver. This project was an effort to honor our mother for taking the time to teach us those great old songs, as well as an effort to preserve some of the wonderful music of that era. The proceeds from the project will go to local charities.
