GUDRÚN ÓLAFSDÓTTIR mezzo-soprano RONCESVALLES DUO Elena Jáuregui, violin Francisco Javier Jáuregui, guitar Recorded, edited and mastered by Árni Möller (Abu) Secretos quiero descubrir is a very personal project for us, born from our love of Spanish music – with its rich and diverse cultural her- itage – and of these pieces in particular, some of which we have been performing for many years. It has grown from our many personal and musical ex- periences together, and from our close relationships with contemporary composers Agustín Castilla-Ávi- la, Eduardo Morales-Caso, David del Puerto and John Barber. All of the works included in this album, other than Homenajes, were composed or arranged with our ensemble in mind and are recorded here for the first time. It is worth mentioning that Castil- la-Ávila, Morales-Caso and del Puerto all wrote the poems for their songs. Some of the melodies in this recording date possibly as far back as the 10th century but we still hear and understand the stories and the feelings they express today. We still feel the need to dream, to love, to unlove, and to explore and reveal the secrets of our souls and of our lives. Every day and every night, some women still put their babies to sleep feeling blissful and fulfilled as in Duerme tesoro, while others sing them lullabies feeling betrayed and hurt as in Aurtxo txikia or Nani, nani. As musicians, we seek to reveal the secrets hidden behind the characters and their stories. In doing so, we try to look deep into ourselves and those close to us – and share with others what we have explored in the hope that it may shed some light on our common human experiences and, if possible, bring some comfort and joy. We hope this music helps you, as it has helped us, grow closer to discovering some of the secrets of your soul.
