简介

Atlantis Quartet formed in October 2006 and in less than a year is making quite a splash on the twin cities jazz scene. The group consists of four of Minnesota's most exciting emerging jazz artists who have come together to create and explore fresh and original sounds on the more modern edges of the jazz idiom. Dwight Hobbes of Pulse of the Twin Cities credits Atlantis Quartet with "strong compositions and insanely serious chops" while the Dakota Jazz Club refers to the band as "one of the best young jazz groups in the cities". In its relatively short existence, the quartet has performed many of the area's top jazz venues, including the Dakota, Times Bar & Cafe, Rossi's Blue Star Room, and the Nomad Jazz Series. Perhaps more exciting are the genre boundaries that Atlantis Quartet has been pushing, bringing its lively modern jazz sound into rock clubs as well, such as the Uptown Bar and Bunkers. In many ways, Atlantis Quartet considers itself more along the lines of a rock band performing original jazz. The foursome also host a regular gig at Jitters Martini Bar on the first Thursday of each month, the club where they first cut their teeth as a band. Saxophonist Brandon Wozniak moved to Minnesota in 2006. He spent the previous six years living and performing in New York City and has performed in China and Germany. Beyond his work with Atlantis Quartet, Wozniak is a member of The 3rio, and has performed with Bruce Henry, the Sam Kuusisto Band, Katie Gearty, the Four Tops, and toured with The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra. Wozniak hold a BA in Music from Indiana University, where he spent four years under the instruction of David Baker. Guitarist Zacc Harris arrived in Minneapolis in August 2005 from Illinois where he earned a BA in Music at Southern Illinois University and performed more than 200 shows a year for five years. Harris formed the Luminessence Trio upon moving to Minnesota, and soon led the group into several high profile venues, including the Dakota Jazz Club. Along with performing in Atlantis Quartet, Harris also leads his own trio and has worked with Tanner Taylor, Jay Epstein, Katie Gearty, Sophia Shorai, and John Starkey. Bassist Travis Schilling has been performing in the twin cities for the last 10 years when he first moved here to attend McNally Smith College of Music. After touring with The Renee Austin Band for five years, Travis went on to perform with The Wolverines, Patrick Harrison, The Eagle River Band, Nate Brown, The Sam Kuusisto Band, Katie Gearty, Jug, Tim Sigler and more. Schilling has recently been added to the adjunct faculty of his alma mater, McNally Smith College of Music. Drummer Pete Hennig also moved to Minneapolis to attend McNally Smith over a decade ago, and has been one of the busiest drummers in town ever since. After graduating from McNally Smith, Hennig spent three years studying with Dave King of Happy Apple and the Bad Plus. Hennig has performed with Bernard Allison, The Sam Kuusisto Band, Debbie Duncan, Katie Gearty, Tickle Fight, Inspirado, New York based dancer Sarah Michelson and composer Matt Rocker, Patrick Harrison, Johnny Clueless, John Starkey, and many more.
