21st CENTURY SURF…LIKE DICK DALE ON SPEED! Which kind of music do you play? Surfmusic. Aha, what’s that, something like the Beach Boys? Uhmm, not exactly…. THE RAZORBLADES from Wiesbaden, Germany have heard this dialogue numerous times. Founded in 2002 by guitarist Rob Razorblade the band went on a mission to show the world that there is another kind of surfmusic, in a style the Beach Boys wouldn’t have wasted a single thought about. There’s no beach in the area of Wiesbaden, Germany and the sun doesn’t shine too much, but with the love of surfmusic in their hearts, the three musicians Rob RAZORBLADE lead guitar Ray RAZORBLADE bass guitar Regina RAZORBLADE drums created a style that is now known as 21st Century Surf. a very danceable mixture of twang guitars, punk power and melodies as big as the ocean. Influences range from old school master Dick Dale to Neo-Surf acts like Slacktone and The Mermen. After a few rehearsals, the band recorded their first CD “Get Cut By The Razorblades” in 2002. Soon a record label was found. Surf Waves Records from Belgium released the album It gained enthusiastic reviews from surfmagazines, fans and colleagues (among them Slacktone, The Mermen, Pollo Del Mar and Davie Allan to name a few). Since surfmusic is meant to be played live and make people dance, the band did, what every good surfband is supposed to do: Hit the road and rock their hearts out! Since 2003 the Razorblades have toured relentlessly in Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands, France and Austria, shared the stage with brothers in arms like Slacktone, Fifty Foot Combo, Turbo Acs and The Kilaueas and left a lot of happy, sweaty young people behind that couldn’t help but shake their hair and shake their hips to the sound of the Razorblades. In 2004 and 2005 the band contributed a lot of songs to various samplers and finally found the time to record their second longplayer “The Dark Side Of The Beach” that was released 2006 on their own label General Schallplatten. Touring went on and the German Rock’n Rollers burned a lot of rubber touring Germany and the rest of Europe. 2007 saw the release of the 7’’ Vinyl “Shake Your Pony Tails”, a musical celebration of the most beautiful haircut a girl can put on her head (at least in Rob’s opinion). In 2008 the power trio entered the studio to record the third full length album TWANG MACHINE, which opens up the Razorblades cosmos to musical styles that traditional surf bands never dare to touch. Can you combine reggae, ska, rockabilly and garage rock with surf? You can!!! The result is an album that combines classic surf with the power of today’s music. After six years, THE RAZORBLADES are known worldwide. DJs in the US play their songs, Belgian girls dance to their music and bands in different parts of the world (Slovenia and USA to be exact) cover their songs. The band remains very busy on Europe’s live circuit and continues to show the world another side of surf music, far away from the Beach Boys. You should check them out! Just a load of bullshit? Well, here’s the opinion of some fans: Ihr wart so klasse am Samstag! Von wegen zu laut - genau richtig!!! Die CD ist super - hör se am laufenden Band!!! Conny/ Ffm Ich fass mich kurz: ihr wart "huere geil"! King of Wil/ Wil CH Hi, Leutz. Ein echt grandioser Austritt gestern bei uns im Juz. Marius/ Bingen Euer Auftritt beim U&D in Stuttgart war der Oberhammer. Ihr habt nen neuen Fan! Jochen/ Stuttgart "Get Cut By the Razorblades" is spectacular recording. It has quickly become one of my favorite instro-surf CD's. For me, that means a lot because I own a hell of a lot of them. The writing, arranging, production, and (especially) the musicianship is all first class. Lloyd Moore/ USA
