Sister|Sinjin Biographies Elizabeth Duffy is a regular contributor to Image Journal’s Good Letters Blog and Living Faith/ Daily Catholic Devotions. Her essays have been published by Image Journal, OSV, On Faith, The Catholic Educator, Mind and Spirit, and Aleteia. She has written a column and blog for Patheos.com as well as her personal blog, bettyduffy.blogspot.com. Elizabeth learned cello attending public school in the eighties. She played with the New World Youth Orchestra in Indianapolis throughout high school and went on to study cello at Depauw University. She took quite a few years off from music when her six children were small, but recently returned to it, picking up the guitar and banjo as well. She road tests her songwriting attempts and plays very occasional live gigs with a local Grateful Dead cover band. Within the creative sisterhood and partnership of Sister|Sinjin, Elizabeth has found a place for all of her experiences in writing, music and family life to meld. From start to finish, considering the different gifts each member brought to the project and the resources of time, making the Incarnation album has felt like a divine intervention. Elise Erikson Barrett is a writer, editor, singer/songwriter, and daytime manager of things philanthropic. She has released two full-length studio albums, Awake (2014; recorded at the historic Fantasy Studios in Berkeley, California, and reviewed by the Christian Century here); and Valley (2016; arrangements of loved hymns that borrow from Americana, Celtic sensibilities, blues, and more). Elise is also the author of What Was Lost: A Christian Journey Through Miscarriage (Westminster John Knox Press, 2010), which received Christianity Today magazine's "Best Book" award in the Christian Living category, blogs occasionally at Sick Pilgrim, and has had writing published at Her.meneutics and included in The Upper Room's Devotions. She is a former United Methodist pastor who came into full communion with the Catholic church shortly before her husband's death from cancer in February of 2016. If you're interested in this story, Elise warmly invites you to connect with her at elisebarrett.com. For Elise, Sister|Sinjin represents a gift she did not expect during this season of her life - an opportunity to continue making music despite the contextual demands of single parenting and full-time work. She takes delight in Elizabeth and Kaitlyn's giftedness, and looks forward to seeing where God takes this creative sisterhood. Kaitlyn Ferry is a worship minister, classically trained violinist, music educator, and singer/songwriter, along with her full time job as mother of three. She has played with orchestras around the midwest, worship bands in every church she’s attended, and the Folk-rock band Cereus Bright. Recording has always been a passion for Kaitlyn. She appears on the soundtrack to the documentary, “Appalachia: A History of Mountains and People”, two EPs and a full length album with Cereus Bright, a compilation album curated by Cardiphonia. Kaitlyn released her first solo EP “Psalms” in October, 2016. On the very day Kaitlyn moved to Indianapolis, she met Elise who connected her with Elizabeth and before they knew it they made an album. The determination, skill and complementary strengths of these three women has been Kaitlyn’s greatest joy in this process and she looks forward to continued creativity with Sister|Sinjin.
