简介
Music carefully selected from the BBC series "Casualty 1900's", this is not polite gentile period drama fare, instead it owes more to modern dramatic cinematic scores such as James Newton Howard's "The Village", "Unbreakable", or from his collaboration with Hans Zimmer on "The Dark Knight". Set against the backdrop of late Victorian London, the score is deliberately modern, as if to say 'the more things change the more they stay the same'. Terrorism, animal rights activism, political and social upheaval, immigration, health funding - all issues that we recognise today, but were issues that people were struggling with 100 years ago, as well as the human conditions of love, fear, and anguish. The biggest difference from then until now is the pioneering spirit and sense of duty that the doctors and nurses felt in dealing with the grinding poverty and the ubiquitous disease and suffering that accompanied it. Despite these themes, there was plenty of opportunity for hope and romance within the score and the music selected for this album reflects that optimism. It is carefully compiled to make for a satisfying listening experience from beginning to end. I hope you enjoy it. From Stone City: "Dramatised from original hospital records, private papers and newspaper stories "CASUALTY 1900's" is set in the London Hospital in the dangerous, desperately poor East End. Revolution is in the air. Anarchists are suspected of ‘outrages’, Suffragettes are violently protesting, the hospital itself is under attack from animal rights activists. The London is on the frontline in an age of radical change."
