The Past Marte first picked up a guitar at the age of eight years old. Growing up, he was classically trained until reaching high school. There he learned to play the trumpet, which in turn helped develop his lungs for a singing voice. His first show ever was at a small café in downtown Vacaville, California in 1999. Soon after that he attended college at Chico State University where he met and formed a group called Standard. From 2001 to 2005 they performed at places ranging from the The Red Devil Lounge of SF back to LaSalles of Chico, CA. They self produced an album called “Promise” and were successful in getting the song “Means” on regular rotation at 107.9 The Point in the Redding/Chico area. However, due to differences in some member’s lives, the band chose to break up. After the breakup of his band in late 2005, he moved from Chico, CA to the bay area and sought out for other members to form a new band. After a year or so of no luck the musical direction switched towards the completion of a solo album due to the lack of like-minded musicians in the area. The Present “You And You Alone”, Marte’s first solo album was written, recorded, and produced by himself at his home studio in Fairfield, California. It features some songs that were written at the beginning of his musical career as well as some that were written in the last year during the recording process. It’s a collection of songs that have been carefully selected to show the diversity of Marte’s musical ability as well as his maturity as a songwriter.
