Mark Roberts and the Occasionals version of Knocking On Heaven's Door is dedicated to the memory of Christopher Craft. Chris was a good friend and former Paramedic partner to Tim "Butterbean" Bullock of the band and also a big fan of our music. Chris came to many of our shows but it was at a show we had at DeepSouth the Bar in Raleigh NC where he heard us perform this version of the song. He said it was his favorite and even sang along as we played it. We told him we planned on recording it soon and he said he wanted the first copy. Sadly Chris died in his sleep just 15 days later. When we were preparing to record the tracks we realized we had a live recording from that nights performance and in reviewing it we heard Chris singing along. At one point Chris yelled HEY HEY YEAH! during the second chorus. Our great engineer John Phillips of BTM Studios in Zebulon was able to extract Chris's singing form the live version and embed it in the studio version. Cheryl Chesser from the band SHELTER was there that night and was singing with us a s a guest on this song, She was kind enough to lend her voice in the studio as well. Our good friend Tommy Redd of NC Music Hall of Fame Band NANTUCKET lent his special guitar skills to the track as well, Tommy used his famous spoon and other tricks to produce some of the great sounds on this track! There are alos some "hidden" items honoring Chris in the recordings, you may never hear them clearly but they are there :-) We hope you enjoy this song as much as we do and that that it touches your heart as we all have had loved ones ........Knocking On Heavens Door.
