> BATL (or Big and the LIttle) consists of Matt Calkins and Chris La Barbera. "Slow Knife," their debut album, is a combination of 'cinematic' electronica and abstract experimental music. Each song reflects a particular moment in time and its corresponding moods, acting as a narrative for memories of longing, loss, joy and hope.

Both Matt and Chris continue to perform with the goal of surprising audiences through a unique merging of experimentation with both sonic texture and musical composition. Dissatisfied with the stagnant repetition of conventional electronica, they came together to produce spontaneous, honest music. Their music is at once artful, abstract, confounding, comforting and uncomfortable. “Slow Knife” insists on an immersive experience of listening, asking that the audience give themselves over to the moment of music, be it a crazed hero theme, a meditation on loss, a soundscape that invites dissolution, or a nostalgic memory of childhood naivete. “Slow Knife” should be heard at high volume, perhaps in a car or similar acoustic space, without care for genre or convention.
