Franz Jackson专辑介绍:by Scott YanowVeteran tenor saxophonist Franz Jackson (who switches to clarinet on "Lover") is showcased on a 1998 concert that makes up most of this CD. Assisted by pianist Claude Black, bassist Paul Keller, and drummer Peter Siers, with trumpeter Marcus Belgrave adding fire on five of the numbers, the 85-year-old Jackson (who has five vocals) is in excellent form. His sound on tenor is most influenced by Coleman Hawkins, although he has his own approach. A veteran of the early-'30s Chicago jazz scene, Jackson had lost none of his enthusiasm for swinging jazz and he works particularly well with Belgrave. This CD is rounded off by a version of "Things Ain't What They Used to Be" (with Belgrave and a different rhythm section) from 1995. All in all, this is one of Franz Jackson's better recordings of the 1990s.
