Flesh Field had already tamed electro fans with their powerful debut release, Viral Extinction, and its companion of remixes, the Redemption EP. The release of Belief Control whispered promises of another powerfully moving (both emotionally and on the dancefloor) mix. In fact, Belief Control is a strong release, packed with catchy electro hooks and rhythms designed to get the body moving. Ian Ross' powerful synth lines play over solid beats and occasionally tribal rhythms that always point in the direction of the dancefloor. Rian Miller's vocals take on alternately haunting and seductive qualities. Tone builds through the epic-anthem feel of "Serene Image," Miller's vocals dance over the riveting industrial drum lines of "Conquer Me," and "Of Purest Form" rolls back into a tribal-techno feel, sans vocals. "Hadean," with its hammering rythms and dramatic entrance, plays rival to Flesh Field's previous anthem, "Cyberchrist." There is no question that Flesh Field is a fantastically talented act, as they flex their creative muscle from track to track. Perhaps it is in this knowledge that the occasional disappointment lies. Sometimes, Miller's vocals don't seem to sit in the music quite as well as they could. A few tracks feel as though they lose momentum too early or pick it up too late. Somewhere amidst these vague concerns is the possibility for some fans to feel that Flesh Field could somehow have delivered something more. On the whole, however, Belief Control is an energetic electro release of merit. You may have heard this energy before in their previous releases, or imagined it when listening to the more carefully paced L'amme Immortelle. Fans looking for something over and above what Viral Extinction had to offer may not find it here, but for those looking for a solid electro release of a slightly different flavor, catchy dance-electro melodies coupled with remarkable vocals may form a powerful combination worth investigating.
