简介
Brenda Ortega is from Las Vegas, NM and has been singing since she was a little girl and has many songs in English and Spanish both secular and religious featured in her father Juan Ortega's CDs. This CD--Amor Lindo--marks the realization of a personal dream to bring tribute to Juan Ortega's talent as a songwriter. He is featured in this CD singing the song he wrote for his wife, Brenda's mother, Anabella. Juan was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the New Mexico Hispano Music Association in 2009. Brenda continues the long-standing family tradition with this CD. She recently performed Padre Querido, at the Route 66 Casino in Albuquerque for the 15 Grandes de Nuevo Mexico Show. The younger Ortega was in prestigious company with other performers including Lorenzo Antonio, Sparx, Al Hurricane, and Mickey Cruz. Padre Querido was a hit song first written and performed by her father, Juan Ortega, 40 years ago. Padre Querido has become a classic song and is requested for any event that celebrates fathers. She was honored to have her father Juan and long-time family friend Mike "The Roadrunner" Baca from Baca Broadcasting present her 15 Grandes award at the show. On January 16, 2016 at the NM Hispano Music Association's 25th Anniversary Awards Show Ortega was presented with a Rising Star of the Year award and Song of the Year award for Padre Querido. She also performed a medley of her songs with her father Juan Ortega which was well-received by the audience. Their performance was considered an audience favorite that evening. The CD was intended to honor both of Brenda's parents thus the songs Padre Querido and Una Docena de Rosas. The first song of the CD Tú Nos Llenas De Alegría has never been recorded. Although it was written many years ago, the song was dedicated to a long-time friend and colleague of Juan's named Nino Lucero when he passed away in November 2014. Both were Spanish teachers at Memorial Middle School. Brenda dedicates the song to all educators and students since she herself is a retired high school history teacher. Amor Lindo is a song dedicated to the memory of Brenda's youngest brother Aaron Jay Ortega who passed away in 2009 even though it was written many years before he was even born. Aaron was born with a rare enzyme defect called Methylmelonicacidemia. He was a paraplegic and suffered many health and physical hardships due to the disease. All of the songs are written and arranged by Juan Ortega. Padre Querido was originally a poem written by Amelia Sanchez who asked Juan to arrange the lyrics and write the music. Mira Mira Corazon and Island In Time are co-written by John Flores and Amorcito De Mi Vida, originally titled Delgadita De Mi Vida, was co-written by Manuel Morales. Since retiring from teaching Brenda has been able to enjoy the freedom of being able to focus more on singing and acting. She was in the musical comedy Nunsense as Sister Hubert. The play was sponsored by the Nat Gold Players and she plans to audition for Nunsense Part II which will run in July 2016. She has been an extra on Longmire and House of Cards. She was a member of the local community choir and participated in the Bach Fest in 2014. She is a member of the duet Sweet & Sour that focuses on country music and of the band Studio B. The band is versatile in various genres such as traditional norteño music, classic rock, pop and country. There are several videos of her singing on YouTube; the most popular of which is an ode to her hometown written by Jim Terr called The Original Las Vegas.
