Ville Vokkolainen is a Finnish composer/electric guitarist educated at Berklee College of Music and New England Conservatory in Boston. He’s currently working on combining improvisational possibilities to highly concentrated processes of European classical music and working on creating fresh sounds and musical approaches to 21th century music. As a Punk/Jazz based classical electric guitarist Vokkolainen is combining elements of both worlds to his concert music writing for ensembles like electric guitar quartets, duos and trios including drum sets and/or electric basses and guitars with large variety of different kinds of electronic effects. Still, his portfolio includes good number of works for more traditional lineups ranging from orchestras to different kinds smaller chamber settings and pieces for solo instruments. Vokkolainen’s debut album Ville Vokkolainen’s Panda Unit presents him as a composer and soloist and was released by Turkish improvised music label Re:konstruKt at 2011. Other members of Panda Unit include American born bass player Dylan Coleman and Japanese drummer Ryo Noritake. Vokkolainen’s newest album Kadotettujen Paratiisi was released in April 2014 by the indie record label Eclipse Music.
